Why Vim?

- [Narrator] Vim has a reputation of being hard to learn. Here's a common joke you'll find online. This is learning curves for several editors and you can see vi, or Vim, has a vertical learning curve. During work rush hours, about 80 people per hour visit Stack Overflow just to learn how to quite Vim. You might find this discouraging but think back on the days you learned to drive. At the beginning it was confusing and hard. Which one is the break pedal? How much pressure to apply to it? How do I merge with traffic? Or parallel parking. You get the idea. All of this took time and effort to learn but after a while you enter your car and just drive. You don't even think about the actions you are doing. Now you have a great way of moving around that is far superior to the previous methods. The same goes for Vim. It will take some time and effort to learn it but once you grasp it and understand the logic behind it, you'll never look back. And, like driving, once you practice everything will come automatically to you. Vim has been around for 26 years and according to the Lindy Effect it's longevity predicts that it will continue to stay around for many more years.
