- [Instructor] Another feature that can help improve performance is Storage IO Control. So here we see an ESXi Host, and we've got this datastore that some of the virtual machines have files on. And the datastore supports a maximum of 3000 IOPs. What I mean by IOPs is simply the number of storage commands per second that this datastore can handle. So how much work can this datastore do? How many storage commands can this datastore handle per second? And here we have two virtual machines, VM1 and VM2. And VM1 is less important than VM2. VM1 has a lower service level agreement. We don't really care quite as much about the storage performance of VM1 versus VM2. So we have assigned storage shares accordingly. And what these shares mean is that during times of resource contention, during times where storage bandwidth is limited, VM1 is going to get half as many IOPs as VM2.
