- [Rick] In this video, we'll learn how vMotion can be used to migrate a running virtual machine from one ESXi host to another. So, anytime you hear the term vMotion, for any of the different types of vMotion that we're going to talk about, the one thing that they all have in common is the virtual machine is running. We're going to migrate a running VM without taking it down, that's what vMotion is all about. So, with vMotion, we're going to move a running virtual machine from one ESXi host to another. There is no service interruption as the VM is moved from host to host. And this gives me the ability to manually load balance hardware. Like, for example, let's say that a virtual machine is running on an ESXi host that is running low on memory, or that has inadequate CPU for the virtual machines running on it.
