vCSA (vCenter Server Appliance) file backup in vSphere 6.7
- [Rick] In this video, I'll introduce you to the File Backup feature of the vCenter Server Appliance. This feature was introduced in vCenter 6.5, and it remains mostly unchanged in vCenter 6.7. Now this feature gives us the ability to perform a Native backup and restore of the vCenter Server Appliance. Now we can do this from the VAMI or using the API. Now what is the VAMI? The vCenter Appliance Management Interface. So what we can do is go into a browser, put in the address of our vCenter Server Appliance, and specify port 5480, and that'll bring up the vCenter Appliance Management Interface where we'll just log into vCenter with our root credentials, and then we can perform a backup from there. The other option is we could potentially use the API, and we can transfer these backups using SCP, FTP or FTP Secure, HTTP or HTTP(S) endpoints, and optionally, we can encrypt the backup as well.
