- [Instructor] Once I've tested virtual machine…to virtual machine connectivity on the same port group…and determined that that's working,…the next step would be to test the connection…between the virtual switch and the physical switch.…This connection I refer to as…the virtual to physical barrier.…Everything on the left side of the diagram…is usually managed by the virtualization team.…Whereas everything on the right side of the diagram…is usually managed by the networking team.…And the barrier between the two,…when we go from the physical NICs on the ESXi host,…to the physical switches, is where a large number…of network problems actually occur.…
The reason for this is that it's managed…by two separate teams, and the communication between…those teams isn't always as complete as it should be.…So in order to test this barrier,…I need to test a small an area as possible…that crosses the virtual to physical barrier.…And I can do that by going from virtual machine…to virtual machine, same portgroup still,…but this time on different hosts.…
