Storage virtualization concepts
- [Rick] In this video, we'll learn about storage virtualization and how storage resources are presented to our virtual machines, and a virtual machine is very similar to a physical machine in many ways. It has an operating system installed on it, and the operating system needs access to resources like CPU, memory, network interfaces, and of course, storage, and the operating system has no idea that it's running within a virtual machine. So the goal here is to basically trick the operating system into thinking that it has real hardware. So let's assume that our operating system is Windows. Windows needs CPU and memory in order to execute. So we'll allocate a certain amount of those resources, and the ESXi host is going to control access to those resources and potentially share them across many different virtual machines. Now our operating system is also going to need a C drive. It's going to need some sort of storage…
