HA failure scenarios
- [Rick] In this video, we'll walk through a couple potential HA failure scenarios and we'll talk about what happens when a slave host fails or when a master host fails. So our first scenario is definitely the simplest. A slave host failure. So here we see four ESXi hosts in an HA cluster. And the master host is sending heartbeats to all of the slaves and each of the slave hosts is sending heartbeats to a master. And now let's assume that one of these hosts actually fails. So we're not talking about a host isolation. This host is actually down. Somebody pulled the plug from it. And so now it's the job of the master to determine is this host down? Or is this host simply isolated from the network and so what the master will do is it'll say okay, I'm no longer getting heartbeats from host four. Let me try to ping host four. That's not going to work because the host is down. The master will say okay, I'm not getting…
