- [Rick] In this video, we'll do a brief review of all of the DRS concepts that we've learned in the previous lessons. So, number one. DRS uses vMotion. VMotion is the foundation for DRS. It's the underlying mechanism that DRS uses to load balance. DRS is going to automatically vMotion virtual machines from host to host for the purposes of load balancing and also for the purposes of avoiding downtime when we place a host in maintenance mode. But it only works as well as the underlying vMotion configuration. So if I've got VMs that are incompatible with vMotion, that's going to impact the ability of DRS to migrate those Vms. We can use anti-affinity rules and DRS groups to segregate redundant Vms. Remember our example with domain controllers. There are certain VMs that need to run on different ESXI hosts.
