- [Rick] In this video, we'll learn about DRS affinity rules and how they can be used to override the default behaviors of DRS for certain virtual machines. So, let's start with a basic DRS affinity rule. Here on our diagram we see four ESXi hosts and these ESXi hosts are part of a DRS cluster. And I've got two virtual machines running on these ESXi hosts. I may have many more, but we're just going to focus on these two VMs. I'll call them domain controller one and domain controller two. So, in my environment, I have these two domain controllers that are essentially serving the same purpose. Their job is to basically back each other up. So ideally, I never want both of these domain controllers to be down at the same time. I want to take whatever steps I can to ensure that at least one of my domain controllers is up and running at all times.
