Join Brandon Neill for an in-depth discussion in this video Configure a distributed switch, part of VMware vSphere: Configure and Manage VDS.
- [Voiceover] To edit settings on the distributed switch…I'll go back to the networking tab…and I'll right-click on my distributed switch…and scroll down to settings,…and go to edit settings.…Under the General section,…there are a couple of things that I can edit.…I can change the name of the distributed switch,…and I can change the number of uplinks.…I can also edit the uplink names…if I want to give them something other than…Uplink 1 and Uplink 2.…Be careful when decreasing…the number of uplinks after the fact,…as there may already be uplink adapters…plugged in to those slots.…
The number of ports is not configurable,…that is elastic and it'll grow…as the…number of virtual machines…connected to the switch grow.…I can enable or disable IO Control from here…and I can write in a…description of this distributed switch.…Under Advanced,…I can change the MTU.…If I want to increase it…to 9,000.…Again that's just going to change it…for the distributed switch,…it's not going to affect any of the…vmkernel interfaces…or virtual machine interfaces…
