Join Chris Converse for an in-depth discussion in this video A note about modifying updatable themes, part of Creating a Photo Gallery in WordPress with jQuery.
- Now before we start building our project, I do want to address one potential pitfall, and that is if you're working with an updateable theme, it's possible that when you update that theme, your code could be overwritten. In this course, I'll be modifying some of the core PHP of a WordPress theme, and to demonstrate this, I'll be using one of the built in WordPress themes. So if you're following along with me, realize that updating your theme in the WordPress administration area will overright the changes that we're making in this course. Now if you're going to be working from your own custom theme or a theme that is not updateable, this won't be of any concern.
Now after you learn the techniques in this course, you may want to consider applying your new skills to either creating a Child Theme or a custom Plugin. All of the necessary PHP that we'll be learning in this course can be applied to those techniques as well. and after taking this course, if you'd like to learn more about child themes I would recommend taking Morten Rand-Hendriksen's course entitled, "Building Child Themes", and to learn to create your own custom WordPress Plugins, I would recommend that you take Drew Falkmman's course, entitled, "Creating Custom Widgets and Plugins with PHP" and both of these courses are also available on the lynda.com online training library.
