Alternatives to jQuery

jQuery is hardly the only kid in town, so let's take a look at a few alternatives that you might also consider. Zepto is a sort of direct competitor of jQuery. It's a smaller library that has cut support for older versions of Internet Explorer entirely. If you're working with say, Zurb Foundation, the prototyping toolkit, it's compatible with either jQuery or Zepto, so you could look at if you're working with the foundation. Mootools is a similar library that seeks to accomplish a lot of the same goals as jQuery, but is also a little smaller, it's not nearly as popular, but you can take a look at it.

The next two I'm going to put together, YUI and Ext JS, these are both JavaScript libraries that also include a lot of user interface widgets, so you can take a look at those if you're building web applications or the like.
