The National Archives, DocsTeach, is a must have application for any student studying civil matters or social studies. Inside of this application students can access some of the most important documents in history and also have activities, to help them learn about the documents and reinforce that knowledge. For example as a student, I can go ahead and click on Browse by Topic. Here I can choose something like civics and government. And let's go and take a look at our Constitution. Besides just being able to view the Constitution, students also have a comparative activity that they're doing with the Constitution. Here they've given us an original draft and then the revised final version.
Then it's going to ask us for some reflection questions, comparing these two documents, such as what is the difference between the opening of the draft and the final version. In the opening, they list out all the different states and in the final draft, it just says, we the people of the United States. And it's going to help identify the important differences in these documents and give students an opportunity to reflect on it and what it means for them. Furthermore, teachers have the ability to register at docsteach.org, where they can create their own lessons and activities. Once they have established a set of documents they'd like students to review, they can create a classroom code. When students open their DocsTeach application, they can simply enter that classroom code and have automatic access to whatever it was the teacher created.
This is a great application for students to use when writing papers, and it also gives them the chance to explore at their own free will, some of the most important documents in our country's history.
