Get to know IPv6, the latest version of Internet Protocol, which routes traffic across the web.
- Hi, I'm Mark Jacob, Cisco instructor here at Interface Technical Training. These upcoming videos are going to be dealing with IPv6. I would imagine most of you are probably familiar with IPv4, or just call it IP because that's what we've been using for years. It's kind of like I can count to 10, I've been using the decimal numbering system for my entire life. IPv6 however, there's kind of a dragging of the feet idea here in the United States kind of similar to the metric system in my mind, and the main reason is because the addresses are so ugly! There just a big old long hexadecimal quartet string of nonsense.
However, once you watch these videos, you'll realize that it actually will enable faster routing, it will enable much more summarizable addresses, and it will just make sense. It's funny how if we don't know something, we kind of shy away from it. It's like, I hate that concept, and it turns out, I don't hate it, I just don't know it. So, you watch these videos, come to understand and know IPv6, take the fear out of it, and there may come a day, it's not today, there may come a day when you say, I love IPv6.
