- [Instructor] Hi, I'm Garrick Chow and welcome to Monday Productivity Pointers. Today, I have a tip that's really come in handy for me for years and can often save a lot of time and confusion in many situations. I think we've all had to call customer service or text support for any number of things and a lot of times this requires you to provide some kind of order number, or confirmation number, or a ticket number, and so on. Now, the problem we often run into when we have to verbally provide a string of letters and numbers is that the pronunciation of many letters sound very similar to each other. For example, B, C, D, E, G, P, V, and Z all have the potential to be confused with each other when you can't see the person speaking. Look at the example I have here on the screen. Over a phone line, there are lot of letters and numbers here that sound pretty similar, like three and G or S and F, and the N at the end can easily sound like an M.
