Set up email accounts

- [Narrator] In this chapter, we're going to look at how to set up and work with IOS' Mail app, which is a full-fledged email client for reading and sending emails and managing your email accounts. Let's begin by taking a look at how to set up your email account, or accounts, on your IOS device, I'll open up the Mail app, if you're currently not managing any email accounts on your device, you'll see this screen, which shows six of the most popular email services around. Now be aware that you can't register for a new email account for any of these services from this screen, this screen is only for setting up existing email accounts. If you'd like to set up a new account, you'll have to visit one of these services on your web browser and sign up. Then you can come back to this screen and set up the account on your device. Now these are the most popular services so Apple has made it easy to just enter a few pieces of information to set up your accounts, if you have an email account with a provider that's not listed here, then just tap "Other" and go through a slightly longer setup process, in this case is you'll want to check with your email provider for the steps and info you'll need to set up your account for an IOS device. I'll just tap "Cancel," but if you have an account from one of these six services, setting up your email is pretty easy. So let's say I have a Gmail account, that's a Google service so I'll tap "Google," and I'll tap "Continue" when I see this message here, and it takes me to the Google sign in page, I'll enter my email address and I'll tap "Next," and I'll enter my password. Now if you're using a service that offers services in addition to mail, like Calendars, Notes, and so on, you can choose which one of those you want to sync with your device here. For now, I'm just going to turn everything off except for mail, because I just want to sync with my mail. I'll tap "Save," that takes me right to my inbox, where I'll now see my incoming mail being downloaded, so once you set up one account, you no longer open mail to set up additional accounts. Instead, if you have another email account you'd like to add, go to Settings, to Passwords and Accounts, and here tap "Add Account," and you can see we get the same options here, now the one exception here is if I've already signed in to my iCloud account on my device, and I can tell that I've had, because I see my name here at the top, if I select that and go into iCloud, here I can turn on Mail, now your Mail is probably on by default if you signed in to iCloud, I just had mine turned off for this movie. But now if I turn Mail for iCloud, and I go back to the Mail app, back to Mailboxes, I can see both my iCloud account and my Gmail account listed here. Now there's also the badge that appears on the Mail icon, this lets me know how many new messages are waiting for me in my various email accounts. All right, so that's how to add account types that your device can set up for you, again if you have an email account that isn't one of the six types that iOS can automatically set up for you, for example, maybe your email account is through your internet service provider, or through the company you work with, you can still manage your email on your device. Again, just go into Accounts, "Add Account," and choose "Other" when you're setting up your account. In many cases, especially if your email address is through a popular internet service provider, iOS can usually still do the setup for you, otherwise check with your email provider for the info needed to set up your email on your iPhone or iPad.
