- [Instructor] If you find yourself in a situation where you can't get your device to respond to the commands for force quitting an app or for restarting the phone, the next step is to try forcing the device to reboot. You'll try this if your device seems to be completely locked up. Now, this process varies depending on the device you're using. If you're using an iPhone 6s or earlier, you'll hold down both the sleep/wake button and the home button simultaneously. If you're using an iPhone 7, you'll hold down the sleep/wake button and the volume down button. If you're on an iPhone 8 or iPhone 10 or later or an iPad without a home button, you'll actually have to press and release the volume up button, then press and release the volume down button, and then press and hold the side button.
