Easily remote to another computer with

My name is Jess Stratton and welcome to Monday Productivity Pointers. Last year, I did a video on an app that allowed you to remote control another computer. It was called CrossLoop. Well, recently CrossLoop has been discontinued so this week so this week I'm showing you an alternative app that does the exact same thing. It's called, and like Cross Loop, I'm going to tell you what it does, and I'll let you see it in action. Let's start by talking about the why? It's hard to troubleshoot a friend or family member's computer without seeing it.

It's hard to teach somebody quickly how to send a screen shot or to troubleshoot over the phone. Sometimes you just need to see what's going on. And then, connecting to them can be a can of worms all in itself. Sometimes you have to sign them up for an account first, maybe change some firewall settings, there's a lot of hoops you have to jump through before you can even get to what's actually wrong with their computer. So that's the why, and now, here's the how to painlessly connect up to a friend or family member's computer to control it and help fix their problems. Just like Crossloop used to be, has one easy download, no sign up, and no firewall settings.

Plus, the connection is encrypted. So, this is the free version of Now, I pointed my browser to With this, the free version, you'll get instant screen sharing and remote access. Now, there is a pro version in which you can have online meetings. That aspect is similar to an app I also showed you a long time ago called team viewer. If you want to go back and find that video in Monday productivity pointers, look for the team viewer app. However, I've loved because the free version does one thing and it does it well, and I'm going to show you that right now.

To get started, have the person whose computer you're trying to connect to, go to and click, start meeting. And if you're downloading it, you can click join meeting, and you're going to wait for a code. I'll show you what that looks like. I've already done that on this computer, so, I'm going to minimize the browser and bring up Now, this is what the other user's going to see. If you want to connect up to their computer, ask them to click that share button, if they do that, they're going to get a 9 digit code.

Ask them to read that code to you, and that's what I'm going to do right now. Here's the code. Once the other person has told me that code, put it in, and click the green play button. And that's it. See how fast that was? I've already connected up to my computer. So now I can go in, I can click Request Mouse Control. And that's going to pop up a box for the other person to ask if they can have control. Click Yes. And now, I'm actually using their computer. So I can go into their system preferences, I can close out of dialogue boxes that they have open on their computer.

I can move things around just like I'm sitting at their machine. So that's how easy it is. When I'm all done, I can simply close out of it or ask them to disconnect on their end. That's how you use There's a lot of reasons why I like it. It's simple and it's easy to use. It's great when you need to connect up to somebody's computer who isn't computer savvy. That's the best part about it. There's no options or choices to make. It's a quick download. They read you the digits and click yes.

No mucking about with firewall settings or waiting for a confirmation email that may have gotten lost in a spam filter so they'll never see it. Since we lost CloseLoop awhile back, has been my new favorite remote support app. So give it a try and see how easy it really is.
