Another kind of edit that you might frequently find yourself performing on clips is splitting. Splitting is useful when you have a clip whose footage you want to keep all of and want to insert some additional footage into. This video demonstrates several methods to split your footage, as well as how to create cutaway shots.
- [Instructor] Another kind of edit…you might find yourself performing…on your clips a lot is splitting.…Splitting's useful when you have a clip…in which you want to keep all the footage,…but maybe you want to stick some additional footage…somewhere in the middle of the clip.…For example, let's take a look at this clip…where I'm climbing up and down these stairs…and running across the road.…Now I also have a close-up of my feet…descending those stairs here in my event footage.…It's right here.…(feet pounding)…So what I want to do is cut away to that close-up…as I'm coming down the stairs…in the shot in my timeline.…
And there are actually several ways to do this.…The first method is to skim the mouse…over the clip in the timeline…to the point where you want the cut to occur.…So probably right about there.…Now once you're there, you can either right click…and choose split clip,…or you can use the keyboard shortcut of cmd + b.…I'll just choose split clip.…And as you can see, that's created a split…exactly where my mouse was.…
