Join Richard Harrington for an in-depth discussion in this video Backwards compatibility with earlier versions of iWork, part of iWork: Workflows and New Features.
…Another thing to keep in mind as you're looking at the new…version of iWork is if you're going to switch over your whole office.…Now, keep in mind there is some backwards compatibility with certain formats.…You're saving off a basic spreadsheet, a simple…presentation without a lot of transitions or animation.…You can go ahead and often hand those off.…But what's typically going to happen is that the…files are going to be in the newer unified…file format.…And not all versions of iWork can handle that.…
So what's going to happen here is that the user is going to have to upgrade.…Now, you might be thinking, that sounds easy, it's a free upgrade.…So is Mavericks.…Well, not everybody works in an office where they're allowed to upgrade their…own computers, so perhaps some folks won't be able to read the documents.…Or, maybe they're using slightly older hardware that…isn't on the supported list.…So make sure you keep in mind that…there are some deeper issues tied to operating systems…as well as corporate policies before you switch…
