Importing InDesign Documents

- iBooks Author now has the ability to import Adobe InDesign IDML files including all of the text and images in the layouts. Let's begin in InDesign. If you're following along I'm in EC_catalog_IDCC.idd. This document has seven two page spreads where each page is a traditional portrait layout. The file is an extract from our designer who just finished a print catalog for our Explore California travel guide. Each spread is fairly complex with a bunch of graphics and unique design elements throughout. To bring this content into iBooks Author we need to first export the document out as an IDML file or an InDesign XML file. We'll do that by going up to the File menu and then selecting Export, and then changing the Format to InDesign Markup (IDML). I'll go ahead and save my document out onto the desktop but I'll also include a copy in the Chapter Three Exercise Files.
