Do you want to sell your books for a price on the Apple iBooks Store, but still want to give free copies to reviewers and influences? You can do this by creating promotional codes. In this video, author Richard Harrington walks you through how to create promotional codes of your photo book and share them.
- Once your book is available on the iBook bookstore, you also get a certain number of free copies to give away. This number will fluctuate and these codes expire. But let me show you how to access them. Feel free to login to iTunes Connect. And then choose My Books to see all of the books that you're publishing. You can then click on an individual book. Once loaded, you'll see the ability to access promo codes. Feel free to click on that to view the number of available promo codes.
Your able to get up to 250 codes per book. This number occasionally changes, depending upon the store and different terms that might have happened. But, generally speaking you should have at least 100 codes available. Remember, the codes do expire. They'll be available for four weeks. So don't download all 250 at once. Instead, you can download these in small batches. And click continue. Now, if you try to pull it down and your agreements are not currently up to date, you may have to login and accept these.
So let me go to that tab and I see here that there's a request for an amendment. For now, this is simply about the fact that I'm distributing books and they're giving me the opportunity to distribute it to more countries, so I'll click submit and that will update that agreement. We'll go back to My Books to see all the books on my shelf, access the book itself and download promo codes. Enter the number of codes you want to get. And click continue.
It'll now tell you what's going to happen, including when the codes expire. After you read that, click the box and click continue. The codes will now download. You can use these codes and place them into social media messages or anywhere else. Now people might not know what to do with them, but its pretty simple. Just tell them to launch iBooks and go to the featured page. On the right, you'll see the option for Redeem.
Login to your account with a valid apple ID that you have associated with your iTunes purchases and simply paste one of those codes into the redeem box. And click Redeem. Now, the book will be downloaded and added to your list. You see there that its pulling the book down and adding it to my library. The use of promo codes are great for contacting reviewers to get them to look at your book or to share with friends and family. Again, they do expire four weeks after issuance so I would suggest pulling these down in small batches.
But, this is a wonderful way to get your book into more people's hands. Even if it is available for sale. You won't receive any royalties on free books but that's pretty obvious. Just use those codes to share with people that you would like to have access to your book.
