The 2015 update

- Since the initial release of iBooks Author Essential Training, Apple has added several new features and made a few changes to how both iBooks Author and iBooks function on the Mac and on IOS. We've gone through this entire course and added new lessons to cover the new features while updating all of the movies and exercise files that are directly affected by these changes. There are a couple of places where you'll still see a difference and I'd like to take a minute and point these out to you right up front. The first is in the top of the menu bar. Apple has changed the Portrait and Landscape buttons to a single button that toggles on and off the Scroll View. We've updated movies where we deal with these views specifically, but in movies where we're not changing the view as part of the instruction, you will still see the old icons. Scroll View also works differently on later versions of IOS and newer devices. In the initial release of iBooks, a reader could rotate their device from the Landscape View to the Portrait View and iBooks would automatically change into the Scroll View. In more recent releases of IOS, readers need to explicitly change their device to the Scroll View using the View menu options. This setting is sticky between books, so it's something that you need to be aware of since it's possible that a reader, who has set their device up in one view or the other, may only experience your book from that view. Therefore, it's really important that you insure your readers have a great experience by thoroughly testing your book in both views if you're building a book from a Landscape template. Starting OS 10.10 Yosemite, Photos has replaced iPhoto and Aperture. As of this late 2015 recording, the Photos application does not integrate with iBooks Author. In the new exercise files movie, we show you how to get pictures used in this title into iBooks Author. However, throughout this title you will periodically still see the old view with the old iPhoto user interface in the media window Photos tab. Apple has released iBooks for iPhone, iPod Touch, and Mac OS, so there are now more options for your readers to engage with your books created in iBooks Author. Therefore, it's now advisable for you to test your book on as many of these devices as possible. This new revision, which I'm recording in late 2015, has been recorded using Mac OS 10.11 El Capitan, which uses a brighter and flatter user interface element and the new San Francisco font. Therefore, you may notice some slight user interface changes between some movies. Your feedback is very important to us and we've also incorporated many of your suggestions in this updated release. So without further adieu, let's get started with iBooks Author Essential Training.
