Working with configurations

Configurations in SolidWorks allow the designer the ability to build a variety of similar assemblies using the same part, as well as the ability to turn off the various features or parts. Think of it like shopping for a car. Even though you know what you want, there are still various trim options that are available. For example, if you're looking for new Ford Mustang you can get the same car with either 5.0 V8, a V6 or even a four-cylinder. These are various configurations of the same car, just with different options. The same holds true for SolidWorks. And using eDrawings, we can view the available configurations of the assembly. Let's take a look. So, this is a configuration with all the hardware showing. If you look down here at the bottom of the screen, you can also see there's another configuration that says No Hardware. If I just click on that configuration, you can see that all that hardware's now been turned off and I'm only seeing the basic parts. I can switch between the two…
