Join Christopher Matthew Spencer for an in-depth discussion in this video Leaving feedback, part of eBay Essential Training: Buying.
Feedback is the heart of the eBay system, and giving feedback helps inform other members of the eBay community about the experience you had with your seller. The goal is to always give honest feedback whenever you make a purchase. However, I strongly encourage that you always work things out directly with your seller prior to leaving feedback that's adverse, or anything other than a positive feedback. Bear in mind that many sellers really depend upon the income they earn on eBay, and your rating directly affects their trading and their ability to sell merchandise to other buyers.
Be sure you carefully consider the feedback you leave before you leave adverse feedback. Let me first explain to you few things about feedback. We'll go to the Help system, and we'll look at the Help Topic. You can learn more about feedback here. Going to the help system gives you a bunch of topics about feedback. You can click All about Feedback here and read about the feedback system. The basics are all explained, and I suggest you take a moment to review this section of the eBay help system. You can also go to the site map here at the bottom of the page, and on the right-hand side under Community, there is a whole section on feedback and links to different feedback forums and links to places where you can leave feedback or view other members' feedback or follow upon feedback you've left.
I'm going to click on the Feedback Forum for a minute and just quickly review what feedback is on eBay. Feedback is an opportunity for you to leave a comment about your experience with the other eBay member. You can only leave feedback if you've had a transaction. Sellers can only leave positive feedback for buyers, but buyers can leave in either a positive, a negative or a neutral rating, along with a short comment. Buyers' and sellers' reputations are based on these feedback comments, so it's important they be accurate. These feedback comments make up a profile and helping prospective trading partners make decisions about buying and selling with each other.
There is also a thing called Detailed Seller Rating which are anonymous, but it counts towards the overall feedback score of the seller. So we're going to talk about how to leave a feedback; that's the purpose of this movie. We'll go over to My eBay, and we'll take a look at items that we've won. You'll see in here that I have different items that I've purchased, and you can also see that this particular item I still haven't left feedback for, but I have receive feedback on it. I can click right here to leave feedback, and I'll be taken over to this section where I can leave feedback for this particular purchase.
Now I would like to leave feedback for all the items I've purchased, so I'm going to click this link right here, All. Now I have received this item, which is the sterling pin I ordered on eBay, but this item I have not yet received. I prefer to wait until I actually receive my purchase before leaving a positive feedback. I'm going to go ahead and leave a positive feedback, and I'm going to leave a comment. I also have the opportunity to leave a Detailed Seller Rating. I'll explain what that is. "Great item, exactly as described! All stars!" Then in the detailed seller rating, the description was accurate, yes, I'm going to give very accurate, five stars.
How satisfied were you with the seller's communication? I was very satisfied. How quickly did the seller ship the item? Very quickly. I got it right away. How reasonable were the shipping and handling charges? They were excellent. So I'm going to go ahead put five stars in all categories. Once you're done leaving all the feedback, you go ahead and click this button here, which says Leave the Feedback. The feedback has been left for the transaction. Now that we've left feedback for this transaction, we can take a look at the feedback we've left. So I am going to go over to My eBay, and I'm going to go down to items that I've won, and I'm going to pull it up on list here.
I can see the item I have purchased. I also can now see, in context, the positive feedback has not only been received from the other member, but I've also left feedback for the other member. And if I click this number, this is the feedback score for mr48. Now I can scroll down and see the feedback that I left for them right here. That's really all there is to it. Other eBay users will use your feedback as a road map while they are shopping with this user. So always make sure to take the time to leave a feedback comment. If you're tempted to leave it an unfavorable feedback, first give the seller an opportunity to fix the issue you're having with them before you leave that feedback.
