The competitor test

- If your design decision isn't based on a best practice, or you don't think the current best practice is a good one, you can use the Competitor Test to explore the ethics of your new potential best practice solution. You can do this by taking a categorical imperative, literally and imagining a scenario where every actor in the same space does exactly what you're planning to do. As individuals, asks yourselves, "What if all our competitors do the same thing we're about to do?" And write down all your answers, then compare notes. It's one thing foe a single company to place electric scooters on the sidewalks all over town for people to use, but what if every transportation start-up places electric scooters and bikes and hover-boards and everything else all over those sidewalks?
