Walking
- Jazz music has produced some amazing bassists, both on the upright bass and the electric bass. It's important to go back to the roots of the upright bass and listen to guys like Jimmy Blanton, who played with Ellington, Ray Brown, Ron Carter, Oscar Pettiford, and the modern-day giants, Stanley Clarke, Eddie Gomez, and the list goes on and on. One of the main styles of jazz is the walking bass. The four quarter notes to the bar on top of the beat with kind of a forward motion style of jazz playing, which relates to the cymbal, the ride cymbal and the hi-hat cymbal. Here Dave and I are going to illustrate this by walking the blues in four-four. - One, two, two. (upbeat jazz music) (upbeat jazz music continues)
