Towards an ethics for tech

- What do you do when something doesn't feel quite right about a design decision, and how do you know a design decision is ethical and won't be harmful to the end-user or anyone else? Tech and design ethics have emerged as a primary focus in our industry and for good reason. Our design decisions impact the life and work of every person our creations reach, and we as designers, developers, managers, and owners are morally responsible for what our creations do to the world and the people in it. This course is an exploration of practical ethics for the tech industry. A template for how to go from this feels wrong, but I can't quite put my finger on why or what to do about it, to this is an opportunity to build better futures for our users. Ethics can and should be a design tool, and this course demonstrates how you can incorporate ethics into your practice as you build the future for your users and yourselves. When I talk about technology ethics in this course, I'm talking about an ethics for all aspects of the tech industry, and ethics for designers and engineers, managers and CEOs, idea creators and technical implementers. I'll show you how ethics can and should be an essential tool used for every decision made at every level, because every decision made has a direct impact on the people who end up using the technologies we build and the world they live in. So let's get cracking.
