Simple beauty lighting, part 2
- In the last movie, we saw a simple, two-light setup, a big octobox up above Natalie to provide a key light, and her holding her reflector to provide a fill light. I want to do the same setup, but we've ditched the reflector. Instead, I have a second light here. This is just another strobe head, but this time it's in a softbox that's really wide and skinny. This is a stripbox. This is 12 by 36 inches. So, you can imagine that it's casting a soft, horizontal shaft of light up at her. That's going to take the place of the reflector. That gives me a couple of things. First of all, it is a flash, a powered light, so I can control it. I can make it brighter or darker. I can position it in different places. It just give me more control. I think in this case, what's even more important than that is, it means that she doesn't have to sit here holding this thing. She was doing fine, and those reflectors aren't that heavy, but if I want her to do things with her hands, if I just don't want her…
