In this video, users will learn how to create a basic setup to follow along with the course. This may be optional for users who already have JIRA accounts to work with.
- [Instructor] We don't want to risk damaging anything in your company's instance, which is why we suggest you follow these installation instructions to ensure you are working in a closed sandbox environment, where mistakes are encouraged. Be sure to pay close attention to the following process so that your instance will be configured correctly for this video. Proceed to the following url. You will see a list of different packages to choose from. Software and Documentation is JIRA with Confluence. Software and Help Desk is JIRA with Service Desk. And the last option is an a la carte choice that allows you to select what software to add to your JIRA instance.
What we want is the basic JIRA software on the far left. You're going to press Try it free, and this will direct you to the account sign up page. Choose your site name, which will be affixed to the Atlassian.net website, as we are creating a Cloud site. Fill in your username information, and your email address. Choose your password, and then click Start now. If you sign in with a email address previously used, you may not be eligible for the free demo.
To ensure your demo is provided for free, register with a newly created email address, disposable after this demo. After clicking Start now, you will be presented with a confirmation screen asking you to check your email. This may take a few minutes. If it's still not delivered, be sure to check your junk mail After clicking the verification link in your email, you will be brought to a spinning up message and screen. After the spin up is complete, you should then be presented with a sign in screen. Choose admin as the username, and use the password you specified on account creation.
You will now be presented with configuration options. We are going to proceed through these steps together, slowly to make sure that your demo project is properly configured. Select your native language, I'm going to choose the United States English. You don't need to choose an avatar, so skip this step by clicking next. Next, we are going to select create a sample project under the text See a project in action on the far left of the three options we are presented with. Even if you aren't familiar with either option, you'll want to choose Kanban software development, the option on the right under software, because that's what I'll be using.
Then, click next. On the create a project with sample data popup, we are going to choose demo for both the name and the key of the project. Then we hit submit. You should now be presented with a Kanban board, but we actually want to start on the homepage, so go ahead and skip the tour and then click on the JIRA image in the top left of the screen to return to the main system dashboard. You should now be on the system dashboard page and we are ready to begin.
