Phrygian mode

Phrygian mode

- The next mode we'll look at is the Phrygian mode. In the derivative approach, the Phrygian mode is created by starting on the 3rd degree of the major scale. So in the key of C major, E to E creates the E Phrygian mode. Here's what it sounds like. (guitar scale playing) In the parallel approach, the Phrygian mode is a major scale with a flat two, flat three, flat six, and flat seven. So the Phrygian mode is composed of the root, flat two, flat three, four, five, flat six, and flat seven. Let's check out what the C Phrygian mode sounds like. (guitar scale playing)
