Learn what to pay attention to when migrating from Hive to Presto.
- [Instructor] The last thing I want to talk about…here in this course is how to migrate from Hive,…and some of the differences that you'll likely run into…if you are migrating away from using Hive for your…analysis query language into Presto.…And again remember Presto can work with Hive…in fact it kind of is built in…and so it works really well.…It just gives you a more robust sequeling…that you work with, as well as that MPP architecture…which really speeds up your queries.…So the big difference that I want to highlight first…is that in Hive you have HiveQL, the Hive query language.…
And this is a version or flavor of the ANSI SQL language.…Which is what Presto uses.…So the big difference here is that Presto is going to have…just a more expressive, full language for you to use.…Whereas Hive has it's own version.…Now that's in terms of the syntactical differences,…the difference that you'll actually encounter.…And that's what I want to talk about here,…the difference in the code that you're going to write…to do the same types of things.…
Data science expert Ben Sullins helps you get up to speed with Presto, and leverage it to accomplish a wide-range of data science and analytics tasks. He uses different interfaces with Presto—such as R and Tableau—and digs into the expressive SQL language that Presto offers for your analysis. At the end of this course, you'll know the key concepts of Presto and how to use them to take full advantage of your modern big data system.
