Methods for fixing vulnerabilities

- [Instructor] If you had a broken window at your house, you'd want to fix it and fast, since a broken window leaves your home vulnerable to intruders and it zaps your home's efficiency if you have heating or air conditioning. The same thing applies with computers and network systems. When you find a vulnerability, you want to fix it and fast. Depending on the type of vulnerability, there are a few different ways that it can be fixed or remediated. Patch, upgrade, replace, or uninstall, remove, reconfigure, implement, compensating controls, or accept the risk. With application and operating system vulnerabilities, the typical fix is a software patch because the flaw that causes the vulnerabilities in the code, new code has to be written that fixes the old vulnerable code. These fixes are frequently called patches because they patch up flaws or holes in the code, much like you can fix a hole in your jeans with a patch.…
