Melodic minor scale

Melodic minor scale

- Now let's take a look at the melodic minor scale. This scale is similar to the harmonic minor scale, with the exception that it has a major 6th along with a major 7th. So the degrees of the melodic minor scale are root, 2nd, flat three, four, five, six, and seven. It sounds like this. (guitar scale playing) You can also think of this scale as being similar to the major scale, but with a flat 3rd. In classical music, the melodic minor scale ascends this way, and descends using the natural minor form. In rock and jazz, though, the melodic minor scale remains consistent ascending and descending. Some musicians even call this the jazz minor scale.
