- In the last movie, we looked at how to control the power of your studio strobe or flash. Of course, being able to set the power is only useful if you know what to set the power to. The tricky thing about working with flashes and strobes is that when you frame up your shot, the strobes aren't on, so there's no lighting in your scenes. So the meter in your camera doesn't tell you anything useful. If you have TTL metering on your flashes, then the flashing camera should work together to calculate proper flash exposure when you actually take the shot. In this course, we're going to be working with all manual flashes and strobes. Not all of my strobes have TTL, but for complex lighting setups, I feel like I have more control when I stick with manual. When firing flashes manually, you have to take a photo, and look at the results, then adjust the flash power accordingly.
