Collections and learning paths are great ways to curate and share content with your learners. In this video, learn how to create and share collections and learning paths.
- [Instructor] Another great way to curate and recommend content is by creating collections and learning paths. Let's take a look at how to create these. First, I'm going to hover over the Content section, and then select Collections. This brings me to my Collections page. And as you can see here I have one collection and that's for Microsoft Excel. I'll go ahead and click on that. Now collections are a curated list of videos, courses, and custom content on a specific topic that enables learners to explore that content in any order. Inside of this specific collection, Microsoft Excel, you can see how many items that I have added as well as how long it will take to consume. Beneath it you can see the description, as well as any skills that you'll get from completing this. Down below you'll see the different courses that have been entered in here, Learning Excel 2019, one on PivotTables, and so on. Now in this situation, I might not necessarily expect learners to watch all of these videos, or to watch them in any specific order, I just wanted to curate resources that they can easily access if needed. Now if I want to share a whole collection with someone I can go up to the top on Recommend, and then Recommend to learners and groups. Type in here the names of any learners or groups I want to share it with, and then share that out. Now let's take a look at how to create a new collection. So from the collections page, I'm going to go to the right, and click on Create New. Here I can enter in the name, let's say Marketing Content, I'll enter in a sample description here. Down below we can enter in any skills that people will get if they were to watch courses in this collection. I'll type in Marketing Strategy. Let's get Social Media Marketing. And then down below you can enter in tags. Tags are a great idea because they help users to find information quicker. For instance in this, I might want to give it the tag of marketing, which now when users search for marketing content, this collection will appear. When I'm done I'll click Create, and it brings us to the page for that collection. Right now there isn't any content in here yet, but that's okay because we haven't added any. Down here in the bottom I'll click on Add content, Search for content, and it brings us this pop-up box, where we can start searching for content. I'll type in here marketing, and now I can choose if I want this to be courses, videos, links, and so on. I'm going to select courses. And here I can add the course Marketing to Millennials. I'll add Writing a Marketing Plan, Marketing Foundations. Now hopefully when you do this, you'll spend a little more time finding the best and most relevant content that you want to share. I'm just doing this one as an example. And when I'm done I'll click on Done. Like that we've created a new collection, Marketing Content, that has three items in here. And down below you can see that the pieces of content are loading. When I'm done I'll click Save & Publish. And like that we have a three-item collection, four hours and 24 minutes of content with these down below. And again I can go ahead and recommend that. Now another great way for curating content is to create a learning path. These are similar to collections in that you're curating and sharing content, however, a learning path is a set of videos or courses which you expect learners to consume in a sequential order. I'm going to go back to content and then to learning paths. And here you'll see I have one example titled Leadership Onboarding. If I click on this, you'll notice it's a little different than a collection. The top is similar, it gives us a description as well as skills that we'll achieve, the total items and the time. But down below it's broken up into sections. We have the Being a Leader section with two courses recommended. Then you go into the Leadership Styles. After that, Communication & Collaboration. So the learning path is a little different because you are expecting someone to complete it and you're expecting them to go through it in a sequential manner. To create them I'll go back, Create new, I could type one in here, and create one, say, for sales. And down below I could add Skills here Sales. I can add any custom tags to make this easier to find. And when I'm done, I'll click on Create. Now in order to start creating this, I need to add a section. So this is where it's a little different than a collection. I'll add a section. I can title it, give a description, and start adding content. Once I'm done with that I can add another section and start adding content to that. So very easy to create a learning path, just like it was a collection. And when you're done, you'll click Save & Publish. And you'll have the ability to share that with other people. So take advantage of the collections and learning paths feature, as a great way to provide your users with resources, and to engage them in learning about a specific topic.
