- Most organizations I speak to have already hear of the concept of DevOps. And many are already using various pillars of DevOps in their practices. Of the five pillars of DevOps; culture, automation, measurement, sharing, and lean, I find that most orgs already have some pieces of infrastructure automation in place. This is closely followed by measurement, weather that's infrastructure help like apdex scores, or defect metrics like mean time to resolution. Most organizations have trouble with the culture and sharing pieces. Sometimes because this involves a complete organizational shift in thinking. Other times, due to regulatory concerns, or perhaps a lack of empowerment. Site reliability engineering, or SRE, is a term introduced by Google. It's a discipline that incorporates aspects of software engineering and applies them to infrastructure and operations. You can view SRE as a specific implementation of DevOps.
