- Anthony Jackson, in the seventies, took it upon himself to start a revolution, in a sense. He began consulting with guitar makers and convincing them that they should build a six-string bass for him with a wider spacing, like you see here, and the strings would be tuned in fourths, which is much more suitable for the bass player since he's been playing in fourths all his life. So, we have low B, E, A, D, G, and C. Now the advantages are numerous in that one now has a four octave range from the low B to the top B, (plays notes on bass) plus an added half step. (plays notes on bass) So you can play a four octave C scale, as well. And just to give you an example of the massive range of this instrument, I'll play a simple B scale, but in four octaves. Okay.
