- My brother, my older brother Tom plays guitars. So when we were growing up in Brooklyn, he was the first one to take music lessons and get interested in playing musical instruments in our family. So I like to be just like him. I think I was about eight when I tried the guitar I couldn't feel the pick and I'm left handed also. And I was playing everything right handed and the pick was really awkward. And my brother saw me struggling and said, well try the guitar, the bass guitar, not the regular guitar and see what happens. So I was comfortable with that I could use my fingers. That's how I started playing. I guess I was about 10 when I started the electric bass. My grandfather used to work, fixing roads in the city.
