How to learn lighting

- While we're going to use people as our subject matter in this course, the things you'll learn here will apply to any kind of flash and strobe shooting. However, in teaching portrait lighting, it's a common practice to cover five basic pre-defined portrait lighting setups. Paramount lighting, Rembrandt lighting, loop lighting, split lighting and profile lighting. I'm not going to cover any of those in this course for two reasons. One, there are several other places in the LinkedIn library where you can find very good tutorials for how to create those and other lighting styles. And two, while those styles are important to know, I'm choosing to skip lighting recipes and instead I'm going to give you an approach for dissecting and understanding how light works in a scene. With such an understanding you'll stand a better chance of creating any style that you want and just as importantly, you'll be better equipped for solving lighting problems when they come up.
