Learn about the fundamental of components of Presto and how it works.
- [Instructor] Presto has a distributed architecture…as I mentioned, and it starts all with your client.…Now, the client could be a webpage showing a dashboard…or somebody logged in through a query platform like Tableau,…as well as just somebody running queries on a command line,…which we'll dive into in a little bit.…When the client issues a request, first,…it's going to send it over to the coordinator,…and the coordinator is going to parse the query,…it's going to analyze it, use the metadata API…and see what tasks it needs to perform…to give you the result that you're asking for.…
With a list of tasks, the next step is to send it…over to the planner, which tries to figure out…the execution plan of the query, and then it comes up…to the scheduler, and tries to understand…where the data lives, using the data location API,…to figure out which workers in the cluster should execute…each different part of the query.…Once the tasks are sent out to the workers,…it's distributed, so that it optimizes each different part…
Data science expert Ben Sullins helps you get up to speed with Presto, and leverage it to accomplish a wide-range of data science and analytics tasks. He uses different interfaces with Presto—such as R and Tableau—and digs into the expressive SQL language that Presto offers for your analysis. At the end of this course, you'll know the key concepts of Presto and how to use them to take full advantage of your modern big data system.
