- Now the next exercise that we'll cover, will deal with hammers-on and pulls-off. We'll isolate the third finger on the D string, and we'll hammer-on. Hammering-on is merely just taking the finger and putting it straight into the neck and then the pull off that accompanies it is straight down. So it's one fluid motion hammer-on, pull-off. We'll practice it in time. Two three four. (gentle music) Now it's important to isolate each finger and hammer and pull it separately. So, this next exercise is in two parts and the first part will isolate the first, second and fourth fingers on the G string, playing C, D-flat and E-flat and we'll hold the third finger down on E natural on the A string. This is to guarantee that the fingers will be moving independently on their own. Now it's common that the third finger tries to draw strength from the fourth and vice versa.
