- A very important part of grooving is hooking up with the drummer's bass drum. In this next little groove from a tune of mine called "Growing" from my first record, Dave and I are going to play together, and you'll notice that my baseline hooks directly into Dave's bass drum pattern. These little patterns are the easiest way to set up a groove. Little one or two bar patterns will help establish a nice rhythmic feel, and then you can elaborate on them. So this is an example of the bass and the bass drum working together in a very tight fashion. (upbeat funk music)
