(upbeat music) - There's a verse in the Old Testament that says, "There is nothing new under the sun." It was probably written about 2,500 years ago, and I think it's still pretty accurate. You may think that lots of developments have happened since then, but the truth is most new things are a combination of existing old things. In fact, that is exactly how many startups pitch themselves. They talk about being the Airbnb of insurance, or the Uber of umbrellas, or the Netflix of underwear. And films do it too. The story goes that the team behind "Alien" sold the idea to the studios as "Jaws" in space. You can think about lots of things as combinations. Smartphones are the love child of a mobile phone and a computer. A calzone is a cross between a pizza and a Cornish pasty. Free-form jazz is cross between music and a burning skip full of manure in my opinion. So, if most ideas are combinations, maybe it's time to let go…
