Focus on your successes, not comparative failures
- Often when we see others succeeding where we haven't yet, we fall into a trap of feeling like a failure by comparison. It turns out that when we don't feel like we're enough in comparison to others, it's because we haven't fully acknowledged what we ourselves have achieved. We haven't internalized our own successes and accomplishments. I'll give you an example. In my own life, when my very first book on web design and web development, "The CSS Detective Guide" came out, I didn't celebrate it. I didn't have a launch party, or a book reading, or even a party amongst my friends. I sent out one tweet that my book came out with a photo and that was it. Now, listen. I had aspired to be a writer and a published author since I was 20 years old. And then when I finally write a full-length book, I don't celebrate it. What? And to this day, in many ways, having written that book still doesn't feel like the achievement that it truly was because I never acknowledged and fully celebrated it…
