- We've already talked about some features: flash power, TTL compatibility with your camera, triggers, certain physical properties. But there are some other features that you might want to look for, depending on the type of shooting that you like to do with your flash. Probably the most significant of these is recycle time. After the flash fires, it needs time to recharge before it can fire again at the full power that it's set for. If you want the ability to shoot quickly, a slow recycle time can be a deal breaker for a particular unit. You might immediately respond, well of course I want the ability to shoot quickly, but you need to really think about that, if you've been shooting portraits without flash, then consider the pace that you usually keep. Of course there are times when a fleeting expression changes very quickly and you need to shoot a couple of frames in quick succession but what's your normal pace?
