- I do a lot of practicing with the double bass drum by doing just playing around with a metronome and concentrating on breaking things up and not having these steady 16th notes or 32nd notes or what have you, because to me it gets old, it gets boring and it's not a challenge to me to continue to play that unless the music requires that particular style of playing with double bass drum. A good way to get that under your belt as far as chopping up the double bass strokes is something that I learned by watching a lot of, another great great drummer and someone that I admire a whole lot, is a guy by the name of Dennis Chambers who everybody in the drumming community knows, 'cause he's one of the greatest in the world.
