Dorian mode
- Cool, now let's check out the Dorian Mode, a very popular mode for soloing in jazz and rock. Using the derivative approach, you can see that the Dorian Mode is derived from the second degree of the major scale. In this case, we have D Dorian, which is made up of all the notes in the key of C major, starting and ending on D. Here's what it sounds like. (plays scale on guitar) In the parallel approach, you can see that the Dorian Mode consists of a root, two, flat three, four, five, six and flat seven. Here, I have the C Dorian Mode. So I have two accidentals to lower the third and seventh, E flat and B flat, respectively. Here's what this mode sounds like. (plays notes on guitar)
