- No matter how many HR initiatives you may have in place, the workplace isn't immune to conflict. In fact, according to a 2008 study, employees around the world spend on average 2.1 hours per week dealing with conflict. That's over 100 hours a year. This number is even higher in the US where employees say they spend an average of 2.8 hours dealing with conflict weekly. And one in three say that conflict has led to attacks or personal injury. And conflict affects more than just those directly involved. Around 20% of US employees report that conflict has led to illness or absence from work, and 10% of workers report that a project failed, because of conflict.
