Get familiar with the TPCH benchmarking framework and how to use it for testing.
- [Instructor] Now that we've looked at…several of the catalogs…it's time to get over to one of the more interesting parts…of Presto and something that just ships with Presto,…which is the TPCH benchmarking component.…Now, this connector generates data on the fly…without needing access to any external sources,…and it uses a deterministic algorithm,…so it tries to understand what data you're trying to look at…and creates that for you on the fly.…First, let's take a look at the connector.…We'll exit our Presto interface.…So, let's take a look at the properties…which is under VH~.prestoadmin/catalog/tpch.properties.…
It's just one line,…and I wanted to point that out…because many of the other catalogs are much more complex,…and they have all these other connection properties…but this one is built into Presto…and it's something that is really helpful…when you're trying test query syntax…or test your benchmarks,…meaning the speed and performance…of a query that you're running.…So, I'll exit out of this here…just by typing colon and Q.…
Data science expert Ben Sullins helps you get up to speed with Presto, and leverage it to accomplish a wide-range of data science and analytics tasks. He uses different interfaces with Presto—such as R and Tableau—and digs into the expressive SQL language that Presto offers for your analysis. At the end of this course, you'll know the key concepts of Presto and how to use them to take full advantage of your modern big data system.
